Race
The social construct that separates people into groups based on their appearance and heritage
Racism
Hate towards someone because of their race
Ethnicity
A people group that someone belongs to because of their cultural heritage
Legal Discrimination
Bias in the legal system based on gender, race, sexual identity, etc
Segregation
A physical separation based on race and systems that support racist ideals
Assimilation
When two cultures merge together to create one umbrella culture, or one culture merging into another typically out of survival
Minority Group
A people group that doesn’t make up the most of a population or doesn’t have the same access to power as the majority people group
Stereotype
A broad generalization of a specific people group
Prejudice
Hate directed at an individual based on their race, gender, sexuality, etc
Genocide
The extermination of a people group out of hate towards them for being apart of a religion, race, ethnicity, etc
Cultural Pluralism
An instance when a minority group is distinctly a part of their minority group all while participating in a larger society (Ex: Chinese Americans belong to the minority of Chinese people in America, and do take part in the American society)
Scapegoating
Blaming a culture’s problems on a people group without sound reason or validity (ex: Hitler blaming all Jews for the failing state of Germany’s economy)
Affirmative Action
Processes and way that people represent women and minorities in the workforce (and other places where they are discriminated against)
