Marriage
A legally binding union between individuals to become part of a family together
The “Marriage Gap”
Those with a higher education are more likely to get married and stay married as apposed to those who aren’t as educated
Divorce
Breaking the legally binding contract that made made as marriage, and separating as a couple
“Boomerang Kids”
Children moving out of their parent’s house only to move back in after going through financial hardship, an eviction, a divorce/breakup, etc
Family
A group of individuals unified by blood or adoption
Nuclear Family
A structure of a family that became the ideal in the 1950s–it being a father and a mother who are married, and their two biological children
Family of Procreation
The family that you are attached to biologically
Cohabitation
A couple living together even if they aren’t married
Blended Family
A family that consists of children that are from either of the partner’s previous relationships and the children of their current relationship
Functions of the Family
The goals that a family is there to achieve while raising a child to prepare them for the world
