Stanley Milgram Experiment

Solomon Asch Experiment
A conformity experiment observing how outsiders are willing (or unwilling) to conform even if they think what they are doing to conform is wrong (Think of the group experiment we did on the freshman with the different lines)
Stanford Prison Experiment
An experiment to observe how ‘everyday people’ will act when given absolute power over other strangers
Social Structure
The way that societal systems are set up–where is the power? how do people interact? how do people survive? are some unequal to others?
Master Status
A status that someone has that is their ‘defining feature’, could be someone’s race, job, age, schooling, gender, etc
Ascribed Status
A status that is not chosen by an individual, unarguable status (ex: age)
Achieved Status
A status that is earned by an individual, not everyone could have this status (ex: college degree)
Role Conflict
When two roles interfere with the ability for the other to perform (ex: being a new mother and having a job–going to the job would mean not being available at home as a new mother and staying home with the newborn means not being available as an employee)
