Q

how does thee RAA system work?

A
  • when bp falls, renin is produced
  • renin splits into angiotensinogen which splits into angiotensin 1
  • angiotensin converting enzyme splits it into angiotensin 2
  • angiotensin 2 increases bp by vasocontriction
  • aldosterone causes kidneys to retain sodium and excrete potassium
  • increase sodium causes water retention which increases bp and blood volume
