RAA system Flashcards
1
Q
what is the RAA system?
A
system of hormones, proteins, enzymes and reactions that regulate your blood pressures and blood volume on a long term basis
2
Q
how does the RAA system regulate your blood pressure?
A
increasing sodium reabsorption, water reabsorption, and vascular tone
3
Q
what are three major substances of the RAA substances?
A
- Renin
- Angiotensin 2
- aldosterone
4
Q
how does thee RAA system work?
A
- when bp falls, renin is produced
- renin splits into angiotensinogen which splits into angiotensin 1
- angiotensin converting enzyme splits it into angiotensin 2
- angiotensin 2 increases bp by vasocontriction
- aldosterone causes kidneys to retain sodium and excrete potassium
- increase sodium causes water retention which increases bp and blood volume
