Quiz # 4 second sem Flashcards
transcription
converting genetic code in DNA to mRNA
translation
converting the genetic code of mRNA into a sequence of amino acids and ultimately a protein
codon
three letter sequence on mRNA that codes for a specific amino acid
what are the steps of transcription
initiation, elongation, termination
what is initiation
RNA polymerase links to a promoter… region that recognizes start of gene (TATA box)
what is elongation
RNA nucleotides are linked together flailing off as it synthesized
what is termination?
RNA reaches a sequence of bases that signals the end of the gene (C and G rich that causes mRNA to start pairing with itself)
what does mRNA do?
used to encode amino acid sequences form DNA
what does tRNA do?
transfers/delivers amino acids to the ribosome where proteins are made
