A

Broad spectrum and bactericidal, inhibits DNA synthesis

MHRA alerts for quinolones (what increases risks)

A
  • May induce convulsions w or w/ history. Taking NSAIDs concurrently can induce
  • Tendon damage (within 48 hours or several months after). CI in those with quinolone-related tendon disorders, >60 (more prone to tendon dmg), increased risk of also taking corticosteroids, stop immediately if suspected
  • Aortic aneruysm and dissection
  • Disabling and potential long-lasting irreverislbe SEs (MSK and NS)
  • Heart valve regurgitation - report SoB (esp when lying down), swelling ankles, feet, abdomen, new palpitations)
