What is the point of maximal inflation and why we do it? Maximal inflation estimates ___________ blood pressure and it improves comfort so we are not inflating to 200 so your putting a cuff on and your finding a radial pulse…2 fingers on the side of the thumb…your inflating that cuff as your inflating one hand is inflating the other is feeling the pulse. The point at which that cuff disappears note the number on your sphygmomanometer and add 30mmHg.
systolic
If pulse disappears at 120mmHg what am I inflating to? 150mmHg
Why are we finding a brachial artery? Because cuff needs to be lined up with that brachial artery because that is the artery that your hearing the sound and when you place your stethoscope your placing it so that your hearing the brachial artery as you start to deflate and that circulation is coming back through those are the pulsations that your hearing
Location of the stethoscope? Do not touch ______ or the _______, aligned with brachial artery…the entire diagram needs to be on bare skin so if half of your diagram is up and not in contact your not going to hear it so you need to press just enough…if you press too hard your going to compress the brachial and then your not going to hear anything so you have to press just hard enough to hear that measurement
cuff or tubing
