Definition: objective numerical data expressed in the form of numbers, such as scores on a memory test.
Quantitative data
Definition: in-depth descriptive data which is expressed in words or images, such as the diary of someone with a mental disorder.
Qualitative data
Definition: data collected by a researcher for the purpose of the study currently being undertaken, such as notes from an observation of helping behaviour.
Primary data
Definition: data which is already in existence or has been collected for a purpose other than the current study, such as government crime statistics.
Secondary data
Definition: Uses secondary data. Several studies that use the same hypothesis / aims are identified. The results are then pooled together. Joint conclusion produced
