Quadrilaterals and Polygons Flashcards
What is a quadrilateral
Any shape with four straight sides.
What is the sum of angles in quadrilateral?
360 degrees
Describe a Trapezium
- One pair of parallel sides.
- No line of symmetry (maybe possible)
- No rotational symmetry
Describe a parallelogram
- Two pairs of parallel sides.
- Each side is parallel to the opposite side
- Opposite angles are equal
- Adjacent angles add up to 180 degrees
- Rotational symmetry of order 2 (a half turn)
- Diagonals bisect each other
Describe a rhombus
- Special type of parallelogram with four equal sides
- Has all the attributes of a parallelogram
- Opposite angles are equal
- Diagonals bisect each other
- Rotational symmetry of order 4
Describe a rectangle
- Its a parallelogram
- Opposite sides are parallel and in equal length.
- All angles are right angles
- Two lines of symmetry
- rotational symmetry of order 2
- Lines of symmetry are not at right angles.
- Diagonals bisect each other
Describe a square
- It can be thought of as a special rectangle or rhombus.
- All foir sides are equal.
- Four lines of symmetry
- Rotational symmetry of order 4
- Diagonals bisect each other at right angles
What is a polygon?
A shape that has straight sides.
How to calculate the sum of the interior angles of a polygon?
(n-2) x 180
n=sides
Waht is convex mean.
That none of the interior angle are reflex.
What does the exterior angles of a convex polygon add up to?
360
What is a regular polygon?
All size and angles are equal.
What is the second method of finding the interior angles of a polygon?
work out the exterior angle (360 degrees dived by 5)
And then take the answer away from 180.
The sum of an interior and exterior angle of a regular polygon?
180 degrees
Describe a kite
- One line of symmetry
- One pair of equal angles
- No rotational symmetry
- Bisects one way
- Diagonals cut each other at right angles
