Graphs Flashcards
Constant
a quantity or parameter that does not change its value whatever the value of the variables, under a given set of conditions.
Quadric Equation
Y = ax2 + bx + c
a b or c are constants and b and/or c could be 0
When is the graph of a quadratic a ‘u’ shape?
When ‘a’ is positive
When is the graph of a quadratic always ‘n’ shape?
When ‘a’ is negative
What is the turning point in a graph?
When the line stops increasing and starts decreasing or vice versa
What are roots in a quadric
Where the line crosses the x axis.
What is cubic function?
It has x cubed in the equation
A cube function also has two turning points.
Give the formula of a cube function.
And what does d represent?
Y = ax3 + bx2 + cx + d
What is a reciprocal?
A number divided by 1
Give an example of a reciprocal function.
y = 1/x
What is inverse proportion?
While one quantity increases the other decreases i.e if one doubles the other will half.
The formula for inverse proportion.
Y = k/x where is a constant numerical value.
