What is text?
- simple and presentable format of presenting information or conveying ideas whether handwritten, printed, or displayed on-screen
- any “human-readable sequence of characters” that can form intelligible words
What are the different types of text?
- Hypertext
- Plain or unformatted text
- Formatted text
Describe hypertext
Hypertext serves to link different electronic documents and enable users to jump from one to other in a non-linear way
Describe plain or unformatted text
Fixed size characters having essentially the same type of appearance
Describe formatted text
Appearance can be changed using font parameters (bold, underline, italic, font size, font color, etc.)
What is typeface?
- Refers to the representation or style of text in the digital format
- Also called font, font type, or type
- Usually comprised with alphabets, numbers, punctuation marks, symbols, and other special characters
Types of Typefaces
- Serif
- Sans Serif
- Slab Serif
- Script
- Decorative
Describe Serif
- Connotes formality and readability in large amounts of texts
- Usually used for the body text of books, newspapers, magazines, and research pubs
- Classic or elegant look for title/heading
TNR, Garamond, Baskerville
Describe Sans Serif
- Clean or minimalist look
- Clear and direct meaning of text such as road signage or nutritional facts in food packages
- Modern look, primarily for webpage design

Describe Slab Serif
- solid or heavy look
- can be used for large advertising signs on billboards

Describe Script
- brush-like strokes
- use sparingly; don’t use in large body text
- wed invitation or other formal events

Caters to a wide variety of emotions (fear, horror, etc.) or themes (cowboys, circus, holidays, etc.)

Developed by Adobe for cross-platform doc exchange, supports images and graphics

Page distribution language used mainly for desktop publishing
