Q2 Joints between the vertebral bodies Flashcards
State the type of joint between the vertebral bodies
A secondary cartilaginous Symphysis joint
State the articular surfaces: briefly describe the construction/structure of the joint
Vertebral Bodies Vertebral end plates covered in hyaline cartilage, Intervertebral discs. The superior surface of a vertebral body is covered in a cartilaginous endplate, this is attached to the annulus fibrosis of the intervertebral disc which then bonds to the cartilaginous endplate which is attached to the vertebral body above
Name the ligaments that reinforce/support these joints
Anterior Longitudinal Ligament
-Posterior Longitudinal Ligament
Give the attachments of one of these ligaments
ALL=Superior attachment to the anterior tubercle of the atlas, anterior aspect of vertebral bodies and intervertebral discs and attaches to the upper sacrum
PLL= Attaches to the body of S1 to the body of C2 plus attaches intervertebral discs and adjacent margins of the vertebral bodies in the vertebral canal.
State the movement that this chosen ligament limits
Anterior Longitudinal Ligament=limits extension of the trunk
Posterior Longitudinal Ligament=limits flexion of the trunk
Name a muscle which produces THAT movement
Erector Spinae for Extension Rectus Abdominis for Flexion
