47
What is the rule of thumb for pumping the hose reel?
Start at 100 PSI
48
What is the rule of thumb for pumping the wildland pack hose lay?
150 PSI
49
Safe Pumping Margin For: 1 3/4" and 2 1/2" hose?
Tested at 400 PSI so safe to pump to 350 PSI.
50
Safe Pumping Margin For: 1 "
Tested at 300 PSI so safe to pump to 250 PSI
51
Safe Pumping Margin For: 5"
Tested at 200 PSI so safe to pump to 150 PSI
52
Safe Pumping Margin For: 5" (green/high pressure)
Tested at 300 PSI so safe to pump to 250 PSI.
53
When pumping from a hydrant, what are the three things that drivers should notify dispatch of?
1) Unit designator 2) Location of the hydrant 3) If the hose lay blocks access to a rode so other units can be redirected.
54
What is an apartment lay?
When a 1 3/4" line is being supplied by a 2 1/2" line.
55
What is the friction loss rule for an apartment lay?
1 3/4" = 75 PSI + 6 PSI per 100 feet of 2 1/2" hose.
56
What is the rule for pumping foam eductors?
Target of 200 PSI at inlet with no more than 600 feet of 1 3/4" hose to the nozzle. This is because you lose 6 PSI per 100 feet of 1 3/4" hose and the following rule applies: If FL + EL > 40, then the foam eductor must be moved closer to the nozzle. This is because the back pressure generated by the FL and EL will defeat the creation of foam.
57
When should a relay operation be used?
When 500' or more of 5" supply line must be used.
58
What are the three roles that a driver may need to assume when involved in a relay operation?
1) Supply Engine 2) Relay Engine 3) Attack Engine
59
What are the general Pressures that should be requested during relay operations based on GPM?
GPM Needed 0-500- request 80 PSI GPM Needed 500-1000- Request 120 PSI GPM Needed > 1000- Request 150 PSI
60
What is the standard pressure that should be used when supplying a sprinkler system if no other pressure is designated on the FDC connection?
150 PSI
61
What is the pressure for supporting a standpipe operation?
110 PSI + 5 PSI per floor Exception: if pressure reducing devices are in place, adequate pressure should be used to pump water to the buildings highest floor.
