Pulmonary Failure Flashcards
1
Q
What are causes of pulmonary failure
A
- Shock
- Trauma
- Sepsis
- Mechanical failure
- Atelectasis
- Aspiration
2
Q
What types of extra pulmonary trauma can cause pulmonary failure
A
- Necrotizing infections
- Non infectious inflammatory responses
- Repercussion of ischemic limbs to soft tissue injury to broken bones
3
Q
What is ARDS
A
Acute, diffuse, inflammatory lung injury that leads to increased pulmonary vascular permeability, increased lung weight and a loss of aerated tissue
4
Q
What causes ARDS
A
- Sepsis
- Shock
- Pneumonia
- Aspiration
*activation of macrophages
5
Q
Activating macrophages causes what?
A
Will disrupt the endothelium and increases permeability
*plasma extravasates into the interstitium (alveoli)
6
Q
What is ARDS criteria
A
- Sudden onset of hypoexmia
- Bilateral infilatrates of CXR or CT
- PAO2 : FIO2 ratio less than 300 and PCWP less than 18
7
Q
Wha is the treatment of ARDS
A
- Mechanical ventilation
- Sedation agents
- Neuromuscular blocking agents
- Daily CXR
- STAT CXR if any deterioration in condition
- ATB
8
Q
What are the sedation and neuromuscular agents used to treat ARDS
A
Sedation
*propofol
*benzo
Neuromuscular blocking agents
*rocuronium
*vecuronium
*cisatracurium
