What is a pulmonary embolism?
A
When a thrombus dislodges and becomes an embolus & lodges into a pulmonary vessel. This leads to obstruction to pulmonary blood flow, decreased synthesis of oxygenation, hypoxia, death.

- Notify physician immediately if any s/s appear
- Reassure pt.
- Elevate Head
- Oxygen therapy
- ABG’s

- Dyspnea
- Pleuritic Chest Pain
- Restlessness
- Apprehension
- Feelings of Impending Doom
- Cough
- Hemoptysis
- Tachypnea
- Crackles
- Pleural Friction Rub
- Tachycardia
- Diaphoresis
- Low- Grade Fever
- Petechiae Over Chest
- Decreased O2
