Pulmonary Emboli Flashcards
How to manage/NI?
–
Notify MD of s/s/ Consult Respiratory
Interdisciplinary approach , safe and quality care
Secure and maintain a patent airway /Monitor O2 Sat/ Continuous Pulse ox
To determine / prevent respiratory distress
Administer O2
Aids in meeting tissue oxygen needs
Raise Head of bed
Semi fowler’s / High Fowlers position to promote ventilation / facilitate breathing
Ecg/Cardiac monitoring
to determine any cardiac changes - dysrhythmias
Assess lung sounds
To assess for crackles (hemoptysis), wheezing
Monitor ABGs
Pao2 is low because of inadequate oxygenation secondary to an occluded pulmonary vasculature preventing matching of perfusion and ventilation
Assist in coughing , turning and deep breathing
mobilizes secretions , prevents atelectasis
Bed Rest
To conserve energy, facilitate breathing , decrease myocardial oxygen consumption
