Pneumothorax Flashcards
How to manage /NI?
–
Maintain a patent airway / frequently assess respiratory status
respiratory distress;Patient has collapsed lung ; inadequate ventilation perfusion match
anticipate chest tube placement / thoracentesis
for decompression
administer O2
to aid in tissue oxygen needs
Monitor Vs, Bp, pulse, RR, o2 sat, ABG
may have decreased bp . decrease in CO due to air trapping compressing on heart and lung blood vessels limiting venous return .
PaO2 will be decreased inadequate for ventilation and perfusion match
bedrest
to conserve energy
place patient on fowlers position
high fowlers to promote pleural ventilation
If chest tube anticipated prevention infection
frequent handwashing/ sterile/aseptic technique
