define wellness
multifaceted lifestyle that emphasizes ongoing healthy actions with the intent to prevent illness and disease as opposed to treatment
what is the difference between health and wellness?
- Health
- measured at a specific point in time and is generally a static measure such as BP or glucose
- Wellness
- an active process consisting of habits, beliefs, and actions. More dynamic and difficult to measure

ex → providing lifting edu to nurses of acute care unit to reduce episodes of LBP

early intervention to decrease illness duration or severity and early detection of problems before they become clinically apparent
ex → screening BP on all pts, or referral of pts to other healthcare providers as indicated
describe tertiary prevention and give an example of it
decreasing degree of disability and promoting restoration of function in people with chronic disease
ex → PT leading group exercises for pts in a long-term care facility who have suffered a CVA
