Definition of Locus of Control.
This is psychology which refers to the extent in which individuals believe that they can control the events that affect them and their health.
What are the three dimensions of Locus of control?
Internal locus of control.
Chance locus of control.
Powerful others locus of control.
Details on internal locus of control.
That the individual has control and affects of their health by their actions.
Details on chance locus of control.
The individual’s health is affected by external factors/forces which they have no influence on eg. karma, bad/good luck.
Details on powerful other locus of control.
The individual’s health is affected by forces external to the individual, eg. family.
What is the common-sense model of illness?
This is a model which allows to understand peoples response to illness along with their management and knowledge.
What are the 5 components of the common-sense model?
1) Identity 2) Cause 3) Time-line 4) Consequence 5) Control/Cure.
1) Identity.
Labeling the illness and the symptoms.
2) Cause.
Why is this illness present? what are the factors?
3) Time-line.
When the illness started and what is the duration?
4) Consequence.
What will happen due to this illness? Long and short term effects.
5) Cure/ control.
How can illness be control or treated?
Critical analysis of the common-sense model.
The model is good as it acts as a heuristic device that assists in understanding individuals’ responses to the threat of the illness.
What is the group developing model?
This model explains the process that teams follow to become high performing.
What are the five stages of the group developing model?
Forming, storming, norming, performing, adjourning.
