Q

What is an obturator?

A

This is a denture used to cover the nasal cavity or the throat.

Q

What is a crown?

A

An artificial structure for a single tooth that is usually covering the enamel.

18
Q

What are the indications of placing a crown?

A

Aesthetics, excessively worn teeth, gross caries, root canal treatment.

19
Q

Types of crowns.

A

Full gold, porcelain fused to metal, full ceramic.

20
Q

Full gold crown Pro/Cons.

A

Least amount of tooth prep needed, strongest material.

Not as aesthetic.

21
Q

Porcelain fused to metal Pro/Cons.

A

Good mechanical strength, less tooth prep, less chances of crack.
Less aesthetic as you can see metal on the margin.

22
Q

Full ceramic/porcelain crown Pro/Cons.

A

Aethetic, usually on anterior teeth.

Brittle, large tooth preperation.

23
Q

What is a dental bridge?

A

This is a small partial denture that is permanently cemented onto the teeth. It replaces edentulous spaces in the oral cavity.

24
Q

Types of bridges.

A

Fixed bridge, Maryland bridge, spring canteliver bridge, direct canteliver bridge.

25
Q

Maryland bridge-

A

This type of bridge has the pontic in the middle with two extending wings on either side to be cemented on prepared abutments.

26
Q

Spring Cantilever bridge-

A

Pontic is retained only on one side by an abutment tooth.

27
Q

Definition of dental implants.

A

These are titanium devices that are surgically inserted into the jaw bone and then acts as an anchor for the attachment artificial tooth.

28
Q

Definition of osseointegration.

A

This is a functional and structural connection between living bone and the surface load-bearing artificial implant.

Q

What treatment may happen before prosthodontic work?

A
Debridement
Extraction
Restorations

31
Q

What is a post and core treatment?

A

A post and core is an endodontic pin that is placed into the root canal to provide support to grossly decayed teeth.

32
Q

Difference between inlay and onlay?

A

Inlay- lies inside the cusps tips.

Onlay- restores more than one cusp and the occlusal surface of a tooth.

33
Q

Pavania/ Nexus ADV and DIS?

A

ADV- Mechanical and chemical bond is good, bonds directly to enamel/dentine, can be set by polymerization.
DIS- expensive, hydrophobic, short working time.

34
Q

What are the functions of a prosthesis?

A

Mastication, aesthetics, function.
