Vasovagal syncope/faint.
Stop treatment. Remove any instruments/materials. Position pt into Trendelenburg position. Apply cold compress on forehead. Administer O2. Administer glucose +/- atropine sulfate.
Epilepsy.
Brief electrical disturbances to the brain’s normal activity.
Stop tx.
Remove anything that can cause them harm.
Position in a lying down position. If on floor place a pillow below the head and place in recovery position.
If the attack lasts more than 10 mins call ambulance.
Administer buccal diazapam.
Diabetes Mellitus.
An endocrine condition where the body fails to regulate the bloods glucose levels due to the lack of insulin production.
Type 1: Stop tx. Position upright. Administer O2, administer dextrose +/- glucagon. Type 2: Stop tx. Position upright. Administer the pts own insulin.
Asthma.
Chronic inflammatory disorder that is characterised by the reversible obstruction of the airways.
Remove anything that would block the airways.
Administer O2, administer salbutamol nebuliser if pt doesn’t have their own inhaler.
Key vital signs.
Temperature 36.6* Oxygine levels 95-100% Pulse avr.72 bpm Blood pressure 120/20 Breaths per minute 12-20 p/minute. Skin colour.
Where can you find a pulse?
Carotid pulse - neck
Brachial pulse- Crevice of elbow.
Radial pulse- wrist
