Prejudice
Holding a negative attitude towards members of a group, on the basis of their belonging to that group
Ingroup
The people you belong to/identify with OR the group with majority
Outgroup
Those you do not belong to/identify with OR the minority
Old fashion prejudice
members of a majority openly and obviously reject members of a minority.
Modern prejudice
a form of prejudice which is more subtle, hidden and expressed in ways more likely to socially acceptable
Explicit Prejudice
Prejudice that is consciously held and usually deliberately thought about
Implicit Prejudice
Prejudice that is unconsciously held, the person holding the prejudice is not aware of it
Discrimination:
Refers to negative behavior towards a particular social group
Positive/Reverse Discrmination:
the favourable treatment of a person or social group who is a victim of prejudice
Direct Discrimination:
can be easily observed when someone is treated unfairly due to their personal characteristic
Indirect Discrimination:
A rule that applies to all people and unfairly disadvantages one group
