what’s the definition of a psychological warm up?
a performer gets mentally ready to give their very best
what does a good warm up ensure?
ensures all of a performers attention is totally focused on the performance and nothing is able to distract from the task in hand and helps them to manage nerves and control outside pressure
what are the different ways an athlete can do a psychological warm up?
-positive self talk
-trigger words
-recapping relevant goals
-stretching
-visualisation
positive self talk
where the athlete talks to themselves using positive phrases, to keep them confident and push away doubts
trigger words
words which the individual says to remind themselves of the teaching points they must remember
recapping relevant goals
the athlete will go over all their goals to help them achieve the goal they are aiming for
stretching
periods of stretching which allows a performer to carry out breathing and relaxation exercises/techniques
visualisation
visualising yourself winning the race and performing well
mental rehearsal
practicing the skill in your head before actually doing it
