the act of making something available for purchase, with the aim of making profit
what does commercialisation in sport involve?
this involves organisations and companies buying and selling sporting goods and services with a focus on making money to give the company exposure e.g. advertising boards

sport needs both the media and sponsorship in order to increase income e.g. players and spectators
how does sponsorship depend on sport and media?
businesses need both sport and the media to increase publicity and brand awareness, this will result in more customers e.g. ticket sales and merchandise
how does media depend on sport and sponsorship?
the media needs sport in order to attract viewers and attention, the media needs business/sponsorship to increase revenue via paid adds e.g. free to air subscription and pay per view

-television companies pay to broadcast elite matches and competitions, and this money is used to pay wages of players
-increased media coverage has meant that sport has become more commercialised, if there was no TV, radio, newspapers and internet, sport would be very different

-some brands of cigarettes and alcohol are advertised on football shirts which could influence young people to buy things that will effect their health
