Psych Overview: U6 Ch14 Flashcards
What is AI?
Artificial Intelligence
Binary Arithmetic
The representation of all numbers by just ones and zeroes.
What was Charles Babbage’s analytical engine?
Capable of preferming virtually any type of calculation
What do we call Charles Babbage’s analytical engine today?
A programmable computer.
How was Charles Babbage’s machine conceived as a universal machine?
The instructions, like the data, could be changed from one operation to another.
A hypothetical “universal” computer proposed by Alan Turing that was capable of manipulating any set of numbers or symbols according to some set of formally specifiable and self consistent rules.
Turing Machine
Experiments that can be conducted to determine how often, on the average, an interrogator would be taken in by the deceptive participant and led to make an incorrect final decision.
Imitation game
Assesses the intelligence of a machine according to its ability to interact with a human being in some complex task requiring genuinely intelligent behavior in a manner indistinguishable from that of a real person.
Turing Test
A vividly recalled image of exactly where one was and what one was doing when some particularly momentous event occurred.
Flashbulb memory
What term was borrowed from computer terminology, which designated the crucial component of a computer the central processing unit, or CPU.
Processing
mind can only be understood as a partner in relation to its environment and that the properties of that environment are presented to the mind quite directly.
