restlessness or hypervigilence, easy fatigability, irritability, sleep distrubance, muscle tension, difficulty concentrating
tx of GAD
SSRIs or buspirone. can use benzos as adjunct short term. Cognitive behavioral therapy
tx of panic disorder
acute: short course of alprazolam or lorazepam
maintenance: SSRIs (paroxetine, fluoxetine, venlafaxine, sertraline for 8-12 months)
contraindication to bupropion
seizure disorder or eating disorder
SSRI adverse effects
GI upset, HA, sexual dysfunction
risks for suicide
elderly white males. highest after initiating tx for MDD, previous attempt, detailed plan, self-destructive pattern, recent loss, poor support and health, substance abuse
DX PTSD
inability to recall aspects of event, avoidance, feelings of detachment or estrangement from others, anhedonia, increased state of arousal – insomnia, irritability/anger, poor concentration, hypervigilance, belief that future has been foreshortened
TX PTSD
sertraline, paroxetine, therapy
electrolyte abnormalities in anorexia
hypochloremia, hypokalemia, increased BUN, metabolic alkalosis
electrolyte abnormalities in bulimia
hypochloremic hypokalemic alkalosis, hypomagnesemia
