PSA Flashcards
What are the quantities of electrolytes in adult maintenance fluids?
25-30ml/kg/24hr water
1mmol/kg/24hr Na, K, Cl
50-100g/24hr glucose
Usually prescribed as 0.9% sodium chloride with added potassium and glucose
What are the different fluid options available?
- Sodium chloride 0.9% 1000ml -150mmol Na
- Potassium chloride 0.3%ml 1000ml - 40mmol K
- Potassium chloride 0.15% 1000ml - 20mmol K
- Glucose 5% 1000ml - 50g glucose
What are the quantities of electrolytes in paediatric maintenance fluids?
<10kg: 100ml/kg/24hr (1L total)
then 10-20kg 50ml/kg/24hr
then >20kg 20ml/kg/24hrs
Max 2L in females
Max 2.5L in males
Typical choice: sodium chloride 0.9%/Glucose 5%
What is the prescription for resuscitation fluids in children?
NaCl 0.9% 20mls/kg over 15 mins
What is the typical fluid prescription for hypoglycaemia?
Glucose 20% or 10% 100mls over 15mins
What is the typical fluid prescription for hypercalaemia?
NaCl 0.9%
1000mls over 4 hrs
What is the fluid prescription for hypokalaemia?
NaCl 0.9%/Potassium chloride 0.3%
1L over 4 hrs
How is volume, dose, and concentration calculated?
d
/
v x c
How is rate of drug calculated?
rate= dose/time
or
rate= dose per time/concentration
