What is atrophic vaginitis?
When the walls of the vagina become dry, thin, and inflamed due to lack of oestrogen
Symptoms: Painful intercourse, urinary frequency, dryness, soreness, irritation
Treatment: Lubricants or moisturisers, oestrogen replacement, regular sexual activity
Which antibiotics are given for different STI’s?
BV: metronidazole
Chlamydia: Doxycycline
Gonorrhoea: Ceftriaxone
Syphilis: Doxycycline
Trichomoniasis: metronidazole
What is the difference is presentation between chlamydia, syphilis, and gonorrhoea?
Chlamydia: white/watery discharge. Burning sensation when urinating
Gonorrhoea: Yellow/green discharge. Affects the rectum too
Syphilis: Chancre presents first. Secondary syphilis presents as rash over the body and flu-like symptoms
What are the options for termination of pregnancy?
Early pregnancy: take mifepristone and then misoprostol 1-2 days later and it will pass vaginally
Surgical: vacuum or suction aspiration (up to 14 weeks) or dilation and evacuation (after 14 weeks)
What is trichomonas vaginalis?
A protozoan STI
Presents as ‘strawberry cervix’
Men: urethral discharge/burning
How is VTE managed during pregnancy?
LMWH (Enoxaparin) throughout the pregnancy and 6 weeks after or for 3 months all together
Dependent on the risk
What are the TORCH diseases?
Diseases that causes congenital defects in the developing foetus
Toxoplasmosis
Other: syphilis, VZV, Zika virus
Rubella
CMV
Herpes simples
