- mRNA attaches to a ribosome
- amino acids brought to ribosome on carrier molecules called tRNA
- ribosomes read triplets of bases on mRNA and use this to join together correct amino acids in correct order
- once protein chain complete it folds into unique shape
- shape enable protein to do its job
