What’s IVF
A
- fertilisation outside of body
- mum treated with fsh and lh
- eggs mature
- eggs collected and fertilised by sperm in lab
- embryo injected into uterus

Problems with IVF
A
- low success rates
- emotionally stressful for parents
- physically demanding of mum
- expensive
- some embryos destroyed= ethical issues

Describe the fertility drug
A
- mixture of FSH and LH
- causes woman to ovulate more than usual
= increases chances of getting pregnant through sexual intercourse

Why some women can’t have children
A
- low Fsh
- poor egg quality
- low sperm count

Oestrogen function
A
- causes repair of uterus wall
- acts as negative feedback mechanism to control FSH production
- stimulates LH from pituitary gland
= more LH, more ovulation

- maintains uterus wall
