Protein production/Secretion Flashcards
Stage 1
mRNA
A copy of a gene is made (called mRNA) in the nucleus
Stage 2
Cytoplasm, nuclear pore
The mRNA moves into the cytoplasm through a nuclear pore
Stage 3
Fuses, rough ER, protein synthesis
The mRNA fuses to the rough ER where protein synthesis occurs
Stage 4
Vesicle
A vesicle breaks off from the rough ER, taking the protein with it.
Stage 5
Fuses, Golgi
A vesicle Fuses to the Golgi apparatus.
Stage 6
Modifies packages and delivers
The Golgi apparatus modifies, packages and delivers the protein.
Stage 7
Vesicle
Another vesicle breaks off from the Golgi apparatus and goes to the cell surface membrane.
Stage 8
Fuses, cell surface membrane
The vesicle fuses to the cell surface membrane
Stage 9
Secreted (exocytosis)
The protein is secreted from the cell, this is called exocytosis.
