What the proper body mechanics for hospital beds?

A

If you are working with a client in a hospital bed, adjust to a working level with the breaks on. When done, return the height of the bed to the lowest level for client safety and ask the client if you would like to re-apply the breaks.

  • Be positioned a safe distance from the edge of the bed *Have the arms at their side, parallel to the body or comfortably bent * Have hips, knees, and feet aligned
  • Have no body resting on a pressure point (use pillows if needed)
  • Have the pillow positioned under the neck only. Never under the shoulders.
