Prokaryotic Cells vs Eukaryotic Cells Flashcards
What is the cell theory?
All living things come from pre existing cells and are made of one or more cells
What is a prokaryotic cell?
Archaebacteria and Eubacteria. No nuclear compartments and no membrane-bound internal organelles.
What is a Eukaryotic cell?
Protists, plants, fungi and animals. Has membrane-bound internal organelles and nuclear materials.
What are the 4 parts of prokaryotic cells?
Cell wall, capsule, flagella and pili
What does the cell wall do in prokaryotic cells?
Maintains the shape of a bacterial cell
What does the pili do in prokaryotic cells?
Helps bacteria cling to surfaces and other cells during mating.
What does the flagella do in prokaryotic cells?
Pushes bacterium along
What does the capsule do in prokaryotic cells?
Protects, helps bacteria cling to external surfaces and act as a nutrient bank.
What are cells made of?
Organelles that contain cytoplasm that is mainly water.
What do cells do to stay alive
Use energy, store materials, get rid of waste, move substances around the cell and reproduce
What do Eukaryotic Cells contain?
Cell Wall, cell membrane, cytoplasm, nucleus, nucleolus, mitochondria, ER, ribosomes, golgi apparatus, lysosomes, vacuoles, centrioles(animals only), and chloroplasts(plants only)
