Medical Imaging Technology Flashcards
What is an x-ray?
High-energy radiation used to check broken bones, blood vessels and arteries and lungs
What is a risk of an x-ray?
Can cause changes and mutations
How can you tell if lungs are healthy in a x-ray?
Dark and symmetrical with no large growths or masses signifying unhealthy shapes
What is a ultrasound?
High frequency sound waves that produces images of body and organs such as heart and liver
Risks of an ultrasound
No documented risks
What is a CT or CAT scan (Computed Tomography scan)
A three dimensional image with a series of different images at different angles using x-ray equipment.
Risks of Computed Technology?
Very few. non-invasive
What is a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
Powerful magnets and radio waves to produce detailed images of the body
What is the purpose of a MRI
Diagnose cancer, brain disease, injuries and strokes
What is the risk of a MRI
No documented risks, but it’s very expensive
What is an Endoscope?
It’s the newest Cancer technology that uses a fiber cable to a tiny camera to show movement of organs.
What are the most common organs examined in a Endoscope exam?
Stomach, Intestine, Colon and blood vessels
What is biophotonic?
Uses the interactions of light with cells and tissues
What is Chemotherapy
An aggressive form of therapy meant to destroy cancer cancer from growing in the body
What is Radiation?
Used to kill cancer cells from dividing
