Human Organ System Flashcards
What are organs?
A combination of different tissues that form a structural and functional unit. (E.g. Heart, liver, lungs and brain)
What are organ systems?
A group of organs that cooperate to preform the major activities of the body.
How many organs systems are there?
There are 11 principle organ systems.
What is the skeletal system?
Provides structure and movement to the human body.
Where are new blood cells generated?
Bones(in the marrow)
What is the muscular system?
Works with skeletal and nervous system to provide movement and also helps circulate blood flow.
What is the integumentary system?
Skin, hair nails and exocrine glands and is the largest organ system.
What are the functions of the integumentary system?
Protection, absorption, excretion, secretion, regulation and sensation
What is the endocrine system?
A network of glands in your body that create hormones that help talk to each other
What is the urinary system?
Eliminate waste from body, regulate blood volume and control levels of electrolytes and metabolites
What is the nervous system?
The body’s response to changes in its internal and external environment.
What are the main organs in the nervous system?
Brain, spinal cord and nerves.
What is the reproductive system?
Biological system made of all anatomical organs involved in sexual reproduction.
What is the lymphatic system?
A network of tissues and organs that help rid the body of toxins, waste and unwanted materials.
What is homeostasis?
The dynamic constancy of the internal environment
