What is a Profession?
A profession is a trade of work that is distinguished from other occupational groups based on:
1) Expertise in a defined area
2) Internal & external structure of occupation
3) Autonomy in practice
4) Professional obligation and responsibility (ethics)

- Ethical ideal which defines that a health professional has a moral
obligation to help, serve or benefit others even if sacrifice of self
interest is necessary

- Be courteous and punctual
- Confidentiality is a must!
- Keep personal opinions of people/yourself private
- Accept constructive critism
- Listen

- We have a commitment to the profession and a moral commitment.
- Note that the profession is not only a job, but we are also
representing the profession and that community

- Take care of yourself and present yourself in order to gain other’s
trust and respect
- Take responsibility of your own actions and clinical work

Accountability
- Take responsibility of our actions and behaviour (this may include,
lying, judging others, domineering and exaggerating)
- Note that as practitioner-in-charge, we are also liable for the practice,
training of workforce and system of care.

- Ensure that we partake in continued learning to be able to provide
best possible health care and system of care.
