What does it include?
- Secure and promote the health, safety and welfare of people at work
- Protect people against workplace health and safety risks
- Ensure these risks are identified, assessed and eliminated/controlled
- Develop and promote community awareness of OH&S issues
- Provide a legislative framework that thrives for progressively higher
standards of OH&S by enforcement, regulation and updating

3) Responsibilities of Dental Practitioner?

- Staff training
- Staff compliance
- Appropriate recourse and cost
- Appropriate documentation
- Maintaining current knowledge of best practice and infection control
- Monitoring compliance of staff
- Know your status in relation to hepatitis B/C and HIV
- Comply with practice policies, procedures and appropriate used of
resources used for infection control.

4) Categories of infection control?
4) 3 Categories
Non-Critical
- Contacts intact skin. (e.g. dental chair)
- General cleaning with neutral detergent
Semi-Critical
- Contact mucous membrane or non-intact skin but NOT bone or
blood. (e.g. mirrors, impression trays)
- If heat tolerant, perform sterilisation. Otherwise, disinfection with
neutral detergent.
Critical
- Penetrates soft tissue, contacts bone and blood. (e.g. burs and
surgical instruments)
- Sterilisation

2) Types of hand hygiene?
2) 3 types
Social
- Wash hands for 10-15sec using non-antimicrobial soap and water
- Or alcohol hand rub for 15-20secs
Procedural (Non-Surgical)
- Wash hands for at least 30secs using antimicrobial soap and water
- Or alcohol hand rub for 15-20secs
Surgical
- Wash hands for at least 5mins prior first procedure and then 3mins
after and prior to each following procedure using antimicrobial soap
and water

5) Why do we perform it?

3 key reasons
1) To prevent the spread of microorganisms to patients, staff, contractor, community and the practitoner
2) Treat all patients to be infectious
3) Practitioner have the rsponsbility to uphold a clearn dental clinic and must be aware of practice polocies on health and safety
these 3 compeonents to infection control enchance teh quality of treatment and must be upheld for a safe clinic via PPE, cleaning, immunization, sterlization, aerosols, hang washing etc.
