What is the purpose of the starting up a project process?
To ensure that the prerequisites to initiating a project are in place (do we have a viable and worthwhile project?) and stopping poorly conceived projects

What are the seven key objectives of the SU?
- There’s a business justification for moving into IP
- All required authorities exist for IP
- There’s enough information to define the project scope in the project brief

- Individuals to do IP have been appointed
- The work to be done during IP has been planned
- Not letting projects based on unsound assumptions go ahead

What’s the purpose of the initiating a project process?
To establish solid foundations for the project so that the organization can understand the work that needs to be done to deliver the project’s products before committing to significant expense

- Identify the reasons for doing the project, benefits expected and associated risks
- How and when the project’s products will be delivered and at what cost
- How the quality required will be achieved
- How risks, issues and changes will be identified, assessed and controlled
- How progress will be monitored and controlled
