What are the four objectives of MP?
- Allocated work on products is authorized and agreed
- Team Managers (and other team members) are clear about what is to be produced and of the expected effort, cost or timescale
- Planned products are delivered to expectations and within tolerances
- Accurate progress information is provided to the Project Manager at an agreed frequency
What are the three activities in MP?
- Accept a work package (discuss content and agree to take it on)
- Execute a work package (team manager sends checkpoint reports, project manager reviews)
- Deliver a work package
What’s “review the stage status”?
A monitoring and reporting activity conducted by the project manager, who reviews what has happened vs. what was expected to happen in a stage
What activity typically triggers an exception report, and what happens after?
The “escalate issues and risks” activity, for issues that can’t be resolved within tolerances.
If any action is required to be taken after, this is through the “take corrective action” activity.
What’s the purpose of SB? (4)

- Approve the next stage plan
- Review the updated project plan
- Confirm the continued business justification and acceptability of risks
What are the six objectives of SB?

- Prepare the plan for the next stage
- Review, and if necessary, update the PID
- Provide the Project Board with information to assess the continuing viability of the project
- Record any lessons
- Request authorization to start the next management stage
What are the three objectives of SB when dealing with objections?
- Review, and if necessary, update the PID
- Provide the Project Board with information to assess the continuing viability of the project
- Seek approval to replace relevant plans with the exception plan
Is SB used in the final stage of the project?
No, “closing a project” is used in the final stage, unless an exception plan is needed
