things to know for EGD

A

-NPO past midnight
-pt. will go to hospital - endoscopy / or can go outpatient
-will give propofol
-look at esophagus, top of stomach, small bowel
-can do a biopsy
-will go home after, someone else must drive home

things to remember with colonoscopy

A

-screenings are at age 45 for men and women
-if family hx, whatever age parent was diagnosed is when child needs to start colonscopy
-NPO past midnight
-clear liquids day before
-best post op teaching for pt. : drink lots of fluids!!!
-check for clean colon, clear it all out
-cant drive home - must have someone else come with
