Problem Solving Flashcards
1
Q
What’s the purpose of a Problem tree?
A
It is used to analyse and structure a problems and highlight its causes and consequences.
2
Q
How to structure a problem in a Problem tree?
A
- Put the problem in the middle
- Branch out effects/symptoms of that problem
- Root possible causes to the problem
- Place the causes/effects in that tree
3
Q
Problem Solving Loop - Steps
A
- Define Problem
- Structure Problem
- Prioritize Issues
- Delelop issue analysis and work plan
- Conduct analyses
- Synthesize findings
- Develop recommendation
4
Q
Defining the problem: Problem Statement Sheet.
What are the components of the sheet?
A
- Problem statement (Question to be resolved)
- Context
- Stakeholders
- Key Sources of insight
- Success criteria
- Constraints
- Scope
5
Q
What is a logic tree?
A
A problem-solving tool that breaks a problem into discrete chunks that are “MECE” (mutually exclusive, collectively exhaustive).
6
Q
Why use a logic tree?
A
- To break a problem into component parts so that work can be divided into manageable pieces, priorities can be set and responsibilities can be allocated.
- To ensure integrity of the problem solving is maintained, by solving the parts will really solve the problem and ensuring that the parts do not overlap and there are no gaps (MECE)
- To build a common understanding within the team of the problem-solving framework
- To help focus use of frameworks and theories.
