Principles Of Training Flashcards
What are the principles of training?
Individual needs, Specificity, Progressive overload, FITT
What is progressive overload
Gradually increasing the amount of overload so as to gain fitness without the risk of injury.
What is specificity
The particular requirement of an activity. Every sport has its own specialist needs.
What are individual needs?
Matching training to the requirements of an individual. When planning your training, the needs of the individual come first.
What does FITT stand for
Frequency - how many times a week are you going to train
Intensity - eg. How many sets and reps are you doing, what weight are you doing, level, or incline
Type - what type of training are you going to be doing
Time - How long you exercise for in order to achieve improvement
What does overload mean
To work at a higher range of intensity than the minimum required to improve fitness while staying below the maximum
