Principle of Design Flashcards
What is Principle Of Design?
The principles of design are fundamental guidelines that help create visually appealing and effective compositions in various forms of art and design, including graphic design, interior design, fashion, architecture, and more.
Principle of design in floral arrangement
*Proportion
*Balance
*Harmony
*Colour
*Texture
*Suitability
*Rhythm
*Dominance
1.Porportion
Ensuring that all elements in the arrangement are appropriately sized relative to each other and to the container. This means balancing the size and scale of flowers, foliage, and other materials so that the arrangement looks cohesive and well-balanced.
- Balance
Proportion relates to the size relationship between different elements within the design. Proper proportion ensures that elements are appropriately scaled relative to each other, creating a balanced and harmonious composition.
- Harmony
Harmony: Ensuring all parts of the floral arrangement work well together to create a pleasing and unified look. This involves selecting flowers and foliage that complement each other in shape, size, and style.
4.Colour
Colour: Using color effectively to set the mood and style of the arrangement. This includes choosing harmonious color schemes, creating contrast to highlight focal points, and using seasonal colors.
5.Texture
Combining different textures (smooth, rough, spiky, etc.) to add depth and interest to the arrangement. It enhances the visual and tactile experience of the design.
6.Suitability
Making environmentally friendly choices in floral design. This involves using locally sourced and seasonal flowers, eco-friendly materials, minimizing waste, and supporting organic practices.
- Rhythm
Creating a sense of movement in the arrangement that guides the viewer’s eye throughout the design. This can be achieved by repeating elements like colors, shapes, or lines in a way that leads the viewer’s gaze around the arrangement.
8.Dominance
Establishing a focal point or main feature in the arrangement that draws the most attention. This can be achieved by using a larger flower, a unique color, or an interesting texture to stand out and become the central focus of the design.
Basic Types if floral Arrangement Designs
*Circular
* Triangle
* Crescent
* “S” Shape
- Circular
A design where flowers are arranged in a round shape, often seen in centerpieces and bouquets. This type is symmetrical and can be viewed from all sides, making it ideal for table centerpieces.
- Triangle
A design where flowers are arranged to form a triangular shape, with the height usually greater than the width. This type often has a central tall flower or foliage as the peak, with shorter elements on the sides, making it suitable for formal settings.
3.Crescent
A design where flowers are arranged in a curved, crescent moon shape. This type creates a sense of movement and is often asymmetrical, adding a dynamic and elegant look to the arrangement.
- “S” Shape
In the “S” Shape or Hogarth Curve design, the flowers are arranged in the shape of the letter “S”. The arrangement work well on higher levels, for example on a corner table , a shelf or on a table which is placed near to a window.
