Principle 6 Flashcards
State Principle 6
Shift the center of gravity by moving the body across the standing centerline, whether moving forward, backward or sideward.
(P6) Why don’t we move the body forward or backward directly along the Centerline?
The core muscles are not engaged. The legs, hips and buttocks push or pull the body forward or backward. there is no energetic connection.
(P6) Why do we move across the centerline?
In this way, the body moves the legs, nof vice- versa. This engages the core and the Spine. By moving the body is this serpentine manner, the flow of energy for the ground to the back and out through the hands is cultivated. All of the bodyweight moves across. See Principle 7.
(P6) What is a major disadvantage of moving directly along the centerline?
If you are pushing forward, an opponent can use that to pull you further fowed and unbalance you. The same with going backward, he can push you. If you move diagonally, an opponent pulling you is drawn diagonally into your strongly rooted foot. Ifyou are pushed, they push diagonally into your strongly rooted foot.
(P6) When moving, where does the triangle formed by the two scapulae and the sacrum face?
Always in the direction of movement. Do not push out the hip on the side you are moving to. Do not twist the upper body right or left.
