Principle 10 Flashcards
State Principle 10
Release tension from all muscles and connective tissue surrounding the internal dynamic core, thereby creating a balanced state of Yin and Yang within the body. This is sometimes known as, “Action within Inaction.” (NB: This leads to “Iron wrapped in Cotton.”)
(P10) How is the Iron, from “Iron wrapped in Cotton,” created?
It’s the cable_like connectivity of muscle and connective tissue that runs from the plantar fascia through the calves, hamstrings, psoas and spinal muscles to the back of the head - once the bow is strung. The cotton comes from relaxation everywhere else.
(P10) Should I imagine that my body is loose and empty?
No. This idea collapses your structure and forces your bodyweight to compress the joints of the hips, knees and ankles rather than open them. Remember that tree roots sink but the trunk and branches reach up towards the sky; this is a good metaphor for a taichi posture.
