Q

State Principle 12

A

Q

(P12) Where does the “ Intention Energy” come from?

A

Muscle produces force relative to size and strength. Stringing the Bow uses this, plus the level of integration (skill) of the 13 principles. Energy is drawn up. The practise of taichi and chi kung integrates energy and biomechanics and stores it as jing in the thoracic vertebrae. This jing can only be released by the mind, without any external muscular support.

Q

(P12) Is there a difference between on open joint and a loose joint?

A

An open joint is as though there is a squash ball in the joint. H can be compressed but always stays a little open and energetic. Loosening a joint and sinking into a Taichi posture is Q common misconception. This collapses the bodyweight onto the spine and legs, compressing the joints rather than opening them. Over time this can lead to problems in the knees, hips and lower back.
