State Principle 5
Draw the dantien inwards by raising the back and loosening the lower Spine. The dantien must be beet activated throughout Taichi practice. This is Sometimes referred to as, “Keeping the energy in the Dantien.”
(P5) How do you biomechanically activate the Dantien?
Lift the Back and Loosen the Waist. When properly done, the muscles around the dantien pull inward towards the spine and the bottom of the foot sucks down. This unites the body from head to toe. Master Ip referred to this as making the Kung Fu. Do not forcefully draw the dantien towards the spine.
(P5) What is the connection between the psoas muscle and the dantien.
A flexible and strong psoas grounds us and allows subtle energies to flow through the bones, muscles and joints. By conducting energy to and from the dantien it grounds us, just like an electrical ground, preventing shocks and static. This grounding allows the spine to fully awaken.
