Principle 3 Flashcards
State Principle 3
Allow the lumbar vertebrae, sacrum and coccyx to naturally descend by releasing all tension from the lower back and buttocks. This action is commonly known as, “ Loosen the Waist.”
(P3) Do we Need a Soft Abdomen?
No, the Yang practitioner should have an abdomen capable of absorbing a powerful punch. A strong abdomen supports the lumbar vertebrae and is an important part of the body’s core strength.
(P3) In “Loosen the Waist,” where is the waist?
The area of the back from the kidneys to the tailbone. This is the lumbar vertebrae, sacrum and coccyx.
(P3) How do we, “Loosen the Waist?”
The raising of the thoracic spine lifts the cervical vertebrae and the lumbar, vertebrae descend. The whole spine is activated. Raising the bach lifts the powerful ilio-psoas complex and related abdominal muscles against the root of the food. The abdonned wall becomes hard and resilient.
(P3) What are the 2 parts of releasing the lower back?
First, the muscles of the lower back and buttocks must be stretched, so that the lower spine can move freely with the upper Spine. (Thought: Hold the Feet)
Second, psychological release. This is more difficult due to physical holding patterns caused by psychological stress.
However, do NOT tuck the tailbone or forcefully manipulate the pelvis.
