Primary tissue types Flashcards
What type of division do stem cells undergo?
Asymmetric division
What regulates gene expression?
Transcription factors
Where are stem cells found?
Early embryo and in tissue
State the two types of cilia
Primary and motile
Primary cilium is non-motile and is for sensory
Motile cilium is for moving and beating and it is found in the lining of trachea
What are the core proteins for gap junctions?
Connexins
What is the base and apex of a neuron?
Base is dendrite and apex is axon
What causes myelination by fatty sheath?
Schwann cells (one cell builds one internode) in PNS and oligodendrocytes (one cell can build a number of internodes) in CNS
What are the glial cells of the CNS and PNS?
CNS: Oligodendrocytes, microglia, astrocytes and ependyma (lining cells of the CNS cavities)
PNS: Schwann cells and satellite cells (in ganglia)
What are lining cells of the CNS cavities?
Ependyma
Which type of CNS cells help maintain BBB? and how?
Astrocytes and by planting its extensions on blood vessels
State the two types of astrocytes
Fibrous (more strung out and fibrous hehe) and protoplasmic (more bubbly)
What are the resident macrophages of the CNS
Mircoglial cells
What produces the striated appearance of muscle tissues?
Ordered arrays of filaments in two types
What are the different types of cartilage?
Elastic, hyaline and fibrocartilage
What is responsible for slippery surface on hyaline cartilage?
Proteoglycan-4 aka lubricin
