Unwanted sustained erection not associated with sexual desire >4 hours
What are the types of priapism?
High flow
Low flow
What is high flow priapism?
Unregulated cavernous arterial inflow - blood enters corpus cavernosum quicker than it can be drained
What is low flow priapism?
Veno-occlusive - blockage to the venous drainage of the corpus cavernosum
What can cause high flow priapism?
Penile/perineal trauma
Spinal cord injury
What can cause low flow priapism?
Iatrogenic
Sickle cell
Haematological disorders
What are the features of high flow priapism?
Painless erection >4hours
What are the features of low flow priapism?
Painful erection >4hours
How is priapism managed?
Corporeal aspiration
